Through the range of topics spanning Britain’s past, and that of the wider world, we aim to inspire pupil’s curiosity to find out more and gain a secure knowledge and understanding of past events. As they learn, understand and remember more, and to encourage pupils’ own sense of identity, we challenge our pupils to think about the impact historical events have on our lives and world today. Our curriculum structure is progressive to allow children to build on key knowledge and skills, so they can make links between current and previous learning, and understand the process of change over time.
Our historians are encouraged to interpret, explain, think critically, question, use artefacts/sources, weigh evidence and understand chronology. We support our pupils to understand that different versions of the past may exist, developing skills of listening respectfully to the different interpretations of what is presented to them. We want our pupils to use the skills and curiosity sparked from their learning in class, to pursue their own interests.
